ABOUT MEDX
MedX was founded in 1986 by Arthur Jones, the legendary founder of Nautilus. After years of development and testing – validated by independent research teams at the University of Florida – MedX perfected its medical machines, which provided the medical community with the first tools capable of producing specific and accurate tests of functional ability, as well as the finest source of rehabilitative exercise. The MedX Core Spinal Fitness System was introduced in 2002 as exercise versions of the Medical machines. Since then, it has helped tens of thousands of people around the world reduce or eliminate their back pain.

People who have failed previous treatments can find relief from two twenty minute therapy sessions per week. We are helping our patients reduce or eliminate their pain with the MedX approach. The MedX was developed to increase strength, stability, flexibility and endurance of the muscles that support the spine. These four essential components of spinal health have been clinically proven to dramatically reduce lower back and neck pain, and in some cases eliminate pain completely and reduce the need for spinal surgeries.

In less than 20 minutes per workout twice a week, patients are dramatically improving their spinal health and their overall quality of life.

THE GRASTON TECHNIQUE
We have recently added a new technique call the Graston Technique to the services we offer our patients. This procedure allows us to detect and treat areas of “scar tissue” or adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments that can lead to pain and dysfunction.

During the healing process, our body attempts to repair muscles tendons and ligaments with scar tissue, much like the scar that forms on the skin when you have scraped or banged your knee. That scar tissue is not as strong and flexible as normal, healthy, undamaged tissue. Over time we can have a build-up of this fibrous scar tissue, particularly in the muscles, tendons and ligaments that get a lot of use. This can lead to pain and dysfunction because this replacement tissue lacks the strength and flexibility of healthy tissue (in some areas it can entrap a nerve). This technique allows us to detect and better treat these areas because it uses a stainless steel instrument that glides along a patient’s muscle, tendon or ligament and acts like a “scar tissue” stethoscope. When knots or bands of scar tissue are encountered, both the therapist and the patient sense a restriction and the instrument can then be used to “break up” this adhesion. Stretching exercises are then used to promote realignment of the fibers so that they behave more like normal, healthy tissue again.
